Seeing all the news about the Nordstream sabotage, why not flare the gas? AFAIK flaring gas into CO2 is far better for the atmosphere than dumping raw CH4. Anyone with knowledge in the gas industry?

Well because flaring requires flare stacks which have to be built ahead of time, and the pipeline only holds so much gas. It’s a lot but it isn’t like an entire well. You just stop putting gas in the line. The thing is gonna be empty in a week.
That being said they are absolutely flaring excess gas before putting it in the pipeline since the pipes are shut down and there’s nowhere to store excess.
