[ELI5] why use 1/2 ab sine c when you can just use 1/2 bh? (As finding the area of a triangle)

In: Mathematics

Do you always know what h is?

Because sometimes you have the lengths of the edges and the angles, but not the height of the triangle. As the saying goes, “there’s more than one way to skin a cat”.

it’s the same.

h = b sin C. 1/2 ah =1/2 ab sin C.

( you used 1/2 bh, but the conections is more visible when you use 1/2 ah, you just need to ensure that you use the hight belonging to the side)

Why you use booth?

because sometimes the hight is not givin, you would need to use b sin C anyway to get the hight, therefor it’s easier to make it in one step, not two.
