Eli5 why when you turn off the ac the house/car gets hot really quickly?

So we are in the summer and I noticed that when I turn off the AC it doesn’t take more than a few minutes, sometimes even less than that (especially in the car but also in the house) to feel that the house/car is warm again. why does it get warm so quickly?

That’s the rate that heat has been entering all along. The AC has just been countering it by removing heat at the same rate. As soon as you turn off the AC and stop that heat removal, the heat keeps streaming in at the same rate it had been all along. Except now none is being removed so the temperature goes up. If it seems to be warming up quickly, that just goes to show how much work the AC had been doing for you all along!
