Why does the lid come off when you use a blender with hot liquid but it doesn’t come off when you use it with cold liquid? Help me explain to my friend why it’s safer to let the steam come out and not over full the blender with hot soup.

First time I had to start leaving for work at 530 in the mornings, I decided I would start drinking coffee. The first day the little plastic straws would get all bendy and not mix my sugar/creamer up too well. I had this great idea the next morning. I put in my sugar/creamer popped the lid on and shook it. I didn’t shake it like that ever again. Coffee look great on a white shirt.
