Eli5:How do ad-free services/apps make money (e.g honey)?

As far as I know, it’s an extension and doesn’t give you any ads and is (as the youtubers say) 100% free

It depends on the service but its likely they are taking revenue from companies simply to be listed. With Honey, for example, while they claim to find you the “best deals” it is generally the best from sites who paid to be listed on Honey, or agreed to be listed with other paying sites to bulk up the list.
