eli5:How do colored contacts work when your pupil widens/narrows? do they move along with the pupil, or do you see the contact on your eye when your pupils dilate, or something else?

I had white-out contacts that I used for Halloween for several years. When your pupil gets wider than the clear spot on the contact, the edges of your vision get fuzzy/blurry because you’re looking through the colored part of the contact. The clear spot moves directionally with your pupil, so the center of your vision stays clear, but the wider your pupil dilates, the more fuzz you see around the edges of your vision.
