Eli5:Why does nvidia put so little vram?

If nvidia or amd made a 12gb vram gpu equivalent of the 3060ti I definitely would buy it, why design the 3060 to have 12gb of vram but make the 3060ti and the 4060ti with 8gb of vram?

It’s a matter of cost. Huge amounts of RAM are of little benefit to lower GPUs, as it’s rarely the limiting factor in that situation.

RAM and designing a graphics processor cable of using a large amount are expensive.
