Most modern vehicles have a form of power steering. Meaning electricity or hydraulics assist your turn. Basically you move a string that indicates to add pressure to both wheels at the same time. Part of the reason you can’t move your tires when your car is off.
In older vehicles they tended to have larger wheels that were easier to turn, but turned the tires a smaller amount, so you had to use more energy to spin the wheel around (sometimes multiple times) to move the wheels even slightly.
You can lookup older cars and see the wheels were much larger and people would have to spin them more.
edit: I know very little about cars, so I encourage others to correct/clarify/add information. Only reason I know this is that I marketing for a company who designed power steering for a brand.
