The title is pretty much self explanatory, but in particular i’d like to know how much time it takes to replace the missing blood and how the body compensate for the lack of it

The bonemarrow pretty much instantly replaces the lost blood cells and other things that are in your blood like platelets etc. You can only take out a pint in one go before you start to feel dizzy or nauseous or something.

The plasma volume should be back to normal in 24 hours, but depending on age and other factors it might take 4-6 weeks to get your red blood cell count back to what it was before. That’s why the Red Cross makes you wait 8 weeks between donations.

We can safely donate up to a pint (500ml) without any ill effects because it’s a relatively small portion of your blood. Your blood volume will be back to normal within a day or so as your body makes more plasma pretty quickly. It can take several weeks to replace all the red blood cells and other blood cells.
