Energy cannot be created, it can only change forms. In that case what is the source of tidal energy? What other energy is getting converted here?

I know that it is caused by the Sun and Moon’s gravitational pull. But where is the energy coming from? Who is losing energy?

Is gravity an unlimited energy source?

Gravitational potential and angular kinetic energy or the earth are cconverted to kinetic energy in the water.

Tidal energy is created by the gravitational forces between earth and the moon. The moons rotation has stopped and the earth’s rotation is slowing ever so slightly. Given enough time if nothing else changed the earth would stop rotating. So that is where some of the energy comes from.

The movement of the moon relative to the Earth.

Since Earth rotates faster than the moon orbits it, the result is the Earth rotating slower and the moon orbiting faster. Most of the energy of Earth’s lost rotation becomes tidal energy.

Earth’s rotational speed slows down a little bit and the Moon slowly, very slowly moving further away from Earth. That’s the energy that is converted into the tides.
