excessively unhealthy food trend on TikTok

I come across these videos a LOT where they just make the most unhealthiest foods I’ve ever seen.
The kind of food you look at and go “Well that gonna give me an heart attack”.

I am all for healthy amount of calories etc. But these influencers make for example a thick processed cheese donut with bacon wrapped around it, like eat that for a few times and your heart is gonna stop…

The worst thing is, the comment section is wild about this and even a couple of my friends have kind of de-railed their diet to this.

Please someone explain why is this a thing?

Stunt food isn’t a new thing. Every platform has it, from Youtube (Epic Meal Time), to television (Man Vs. Food), to real life (state fairs, the “luther burger”). People enjoy dreaming up weird or extreme food combinations and either trying that food for themselves or living vicariously through someone else eating it.

The main reason to avoid actually eating these foods is that they tend to taste worse than the sum of their parts. You’re better off eating cheese, donuts, and bacon separately. From a health perspective, they’re not great, but I hope you don’t actually believe “eat that for a few times and your heart is gonna stop”. There’s a lot less mortal peril involved with stunt food than with videos of, like, actual stunts.

Because nobody gets excited by salad or tofu.

We are hard wired for instant gratification, so a high calorific meal full of comfort foods is going to get hits. Which also explains why tiktokers do it, they want hits to monetize it…if people die along the way…well so be it.
