The nerves that send “Hot!” and the nerves that send “Cold!” are very similar. So similar, that your brain requires context clues to help decide which is which: is there a sound of hot (pan sizzling)? Is there a smell of hot (partially cooked food)? If there’s enough context clues to convince your brain it’s one or the other, then that’s the one you’ll ‘feel’ when you touch the hot/cold thing, regardless of which it actually is.

[Here’s a version](https://youtu.be/S4q0ZVlaw6k) of this done in Hollywood for your consideration.
