she’s basically accusing me of “stolen valor” by saying “youre not indigenous, youre mexican,” despite having 25% “indigenous peoples: mexico” on my ancestry DNA test. can anyone please explain to my mother how this works? i tried to explain it but she wont listen to me.

There are indigenous people all over North and South America. First Nations people in Canada, Native American groups in the USA and Mexico, and Native tribes all over Central and South America.

Ask her if she knows where the words “chocolate,” “tamales” and “guacamole” come from (hint: they’re not originally Spanish, but derived from Nahuatl, the language of the Aztec people before the conquistadores showed up).
