Hapke photometric model

Question

I am supposed to understand and use the Hapke model in a research project I just joined. However, the code I have been sent is very long, complicated, and is not making sense. Could someone please explain what the Hapke model is since that has been the biggest obstruction so far and it would be a good place to start imo.

The basic idea is that you’re trying to find out how bright something will appear, based on information like how much of the total incoming light is reflected, the angle of incidence, and how bright and wide the light source is when directly behind you.
