How come when i hit my head i get a bump, not a dent?

To summarize, you start bleeding without an open wound and it just pools up under your scalp, since your scalp has good blood flow the bump can get pretty noticeable

When you get a bump, your skull (bone) has not been fractured.

When you have a dent, your skull (bone) has been broken and most likely you will not be awake.
