how alcohol gets you drunk?

Basically, what is it about alcohol that makes you as drunk as you get? What chemical/etc affects what to make you swooshy/stupid/whatever?

Ethanol. It is absorbed in to your bloodstream after it reaches your digestive system. This blood then flows through the brain where it releases the feel good chemical called Dopamine.

The neurons in the brain communicate by transmitting signals to each other with the help of chemicals called Neurotransmitters. One of them is glutamate. The ethanol reduces the functioning of glutamate and thus the signal transmission is delayed. This makes you slow to respond to everything you do and you feel drunk.
