The strength of a muscle is proportional to it’s cross-sectional area (2D) while an animal’s weight is related to its volume (3D). Volume grows faster than area. So, smaller animals have more strength in relation to their weight. This is why an ant can carry 50x its weight while something like an elephant can only carry about 1.27x its weight.
