How are sleepwalkers still sleeping even though usually there eyes are completely open as if they are awake.

Not only can their eyes be open, but they process their environment. I was at my sister’s house sleeping and got up, unlocked her front door and walked out. That was the first time I had been to her house and I didn’t know the layout well. Luckily she was up late working, so she saw me and guided me back to bed. I don’t remember any of it.
