In the UK it depends on

– if it’s a urban area

– the size of the road

– the vehicle you’re driving

Some industrial yards have a speed limit of 5 or 10 mph to protect workers.

If you’re driving past a school the speed limit can be as low as 20 mph

If you’re driving through a lot of housing it will be 30mph (always urban roads needing streetlights)

Going out of town or on a bigger “main” road the speed limit will be 40mph.

Single country rural lanes will be 60mph

Dual carriageways and motorways will be 70mph.

Large vans, buses, trucks and towed trailers will have a lower speed limit than cars on the same roads. Usually 10mph less on rural and dual carriageways and motorways.
