Not really an answer to your question, but I think NYC experiences far fewer damaging earthquakes than other regions.

One was in 1737 and the other was in 1884.

I’m sure that the designs, and the design requirements, of skyscrapers in NYC differ tremendously from those in, say, San Francisco.
