currency is serialized(its part of its defense against counterfeiting) and this serilization allow for the money itself to be tracked to some degree
if a stack of cash is reported stolen local transactions will be monitored more closely to check if any of this money shows up.
in some cases where vaults are compromised tho the money stacks may be rigged with ink cartidges that discharge on specific conditions and if that happens the money will be marked to the point where the bills are unusable without giving away they are acquired in a robbery.
