Caffeine blocks the hormone responsible for drowsiness and increases adrenaline. This can overstimulate your nervous system based on how sensitive you are to caffeine and how much you consume. This can lead to involuntary muscle spasms or jitters among other symptoms.

It’s a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant. Nerve signals are what make your muscles move. If you add a bunch of something that sets off nerves and makes them fire, that can cause muscle movements.

TLDR: equal to or greater than 400 milligrams.

If you assume a cup of coffee to be 100 milligrams of caffeine, anywhere north of four cups in the system simultaneously is shake territory.

An intense shake is also known as a physiologic tremor which occurs because the blood is flowing more pronounced.

Stress, emotional state, and environment can become enhanced with large amounts of caffeine and the mind can enter a state of alertness that isn’t fitting to the environment -> causing shakes.

The shakes will vary based upon your metabolic stage and how well the caffeine can bind to your receptors and may not be solely from caffeine.

Individual results will vary.

When i was younger, i could drink coffee and soda all day long and have no real issues. It didn’t matter the time of day. Everything was fine.

Over the years, though?

At 51, I can officially have one single cup of coffee, essentially immediately after waking up. If i have *any more* caffeine at any other point in my day, not only am i jittery mess for the rest of the day, *i will not sleep*.
