how calories and weight of food are two different contributors to your weight?

Surely if you eat soemthing that is 100g then you put on 100g of weight? I seen that 19g of cadburys buttons is 100 calories which confused me about how they both add weight to you.

Initially the actual weight of the item adds to your weight, a-la physics. However, some of this weight is consumed, turned into energy or physical byproducts (CO2 you’re exhaling came from your body producing/expending energy, and that gas has weight) , and used up. Anything not digested is passed through and excreted, also reducing overall weight.

Where calories come into play is that calories are a measure of how much energy you will get from that food. Energy in this sense is ability to move, breathe, and perform bodily functions, not like caffeine-fueled “energy”. However, if you don’t use up all this potential energy, your body saves it for later by converting it into fat. This fat weighs something. So that’s where calories come into play for your overall weight.
