: How can a picture be lighter than another but have higher resolution ?

I used an AI image enhancer to improve a standard image into 4k quality.
The initial image is 8Mo while the enhanced one is 900ko. I can see by zooming in that the lighter image stays clean at higher levels of zoom.

How is that possible ?

File size is a function of the compression algorithm used to save it, not just the raw detail.

It may have originally been saved as an uncompressed file type and then the AI program spits out a different lossless-compressed file type.
