how can burnt toast give you cancer?

I’ve always learned that if your toast is too dark you can’t eat it cause it might give you cancer. How can eating something burnt create cancer cells?

Well burnt stuff is poisonous at least, bc while cooking chemical processes appear to happen, like the so called maillard reaction which makes your fried chicken breast golden brown.
Now how Furan, one of the chemicals produced in burnt food, causes cancer, is not certainly sure, yet is clear whether it causes cancer for humans. Bit it definetly does cause cancer to animals that eat that chemical. Hope this helps you at least a bit.
