How can doctors tell if you are having identical twins from an ultrasound?

Mother of identical twins here. They were born with completely separate placentas and sacs, and we had been told they were fraternal by the ultrasound tech. It wasn’t until they were tested when they were 10 yrs old that it was proven they were identical.
