How can doctors tell if you are having identical twins from an ultrasound?

FWIW, I have 10 year old identical twins and my OB was convinced they were fraternal (with a fused placenta) while the high risk specialist I was seeing was convinced they were identical. I did a cheek swab test on them when they were born and they’re identical.
