The above titanic submersible that went missing can only send short text messages from the ship to the submersible. From my understanding there is no GPS underwater and radio communication is impossible. How can Navy submarines communicate and navigate while submerged in the ocean but the missing submersible can’t?

The missing Titanic Submarine likely had a catastrophic failure. They probably won’t find more than wreckage crushed by the pressure at the bottom of the ocean in water that’s perpetually near freezing. Large subs are built to withstand more pressure, and today’s subs have additional safety proof/crush proof technology subs as late as the 1970s didn’t have.

Military submarines usually operate at relatively shallow depths. Officially most nuclear submarines can only safely dive to depths of around 300 meters. Most regular communication takes place by surfacing or using Very Low Frequency (VLF) systems which require huge antennas.

Can it possibly be a gas leak leading to human poisoning -> lost of control (do submarine have toxic gas? Maybe in the battery?)

what amazes me is why this submarine do bot have a sort of a sonar that sends a ping every few minutes and its operation is independent from that of the submarine. I think this will be useful in case the sub has some sort of issue

Unfortunately it boils down to the same answer that put the Titanic down there in the first place. Greed and greed alone . The white star line cut cost by skirting the safety Issues so that the beauty of the ship would not have to be compromised. Whatever company that submarine belongs to did the same thing so they could make a dollar.

What scenarios could be possible under the “catastrophic hull breach” theory? Are we talking another unknown vessel or missile type of device? Or are we talking some large animal like a shark or whale? Or simply the design was flawed and broke on its own? Or someone inside did something to cause the breach?

I am very unfamiliar with submarines in general as well.
