When you see things, your brain creates an image based on the nerve signals from the optic nerves in your eyes. You’re not seeing the real thing, you’re seeing the brain’s interpretation of the signals. All you need for a mental image is to send signals to your brain that cause it to create an image. It’s like, your eyes tell your brain, the artist, to draw something, and that’s vision. Some other part of your brain tells the artist to draw something, and that’s imagination.
