It depends, different stimulus pumps up, into activity different parts of your brain. Technically any kind of interaction (even if it’s by yourself meditating or actively imagining things) can be recorded and recognized for the behavior being conducted along with any physical reactions connected to the activity. Neuroscience is Fascinating and we’ve been at it for an eternity.
So… Depending on what you were complaining about the strategy would be different and the senses (sight, smell, touch and taste) would allow for specific connections to be examined along with your ability to imagine those senses which would light up different connections.
The massive amount of research done on animals throughout history to make them do things against their nature and record the lasting effects is as disturbing as it is impressive
