How come ducks don’t sink?

Simple: they are made of fat.

They are less dense than water because they are fairly fatty birds, especially on their breasts. Also all flying birds do have hollow bones to make them lighter and less dense though this is a much smaller factor than the sheer chubbiness that is the water fowl.
