How come my text messages reach my Mac first before my iPhone?

It’s only a quarter second difference but I didn’t know if this happened for other people consistently. Is this common?

If you use some Apple service that is based on the internet and not SMS: they probably get the message at the same time, the Mac just has a faster processor/drive and displays the notification faster.

Your Mac is plugged in and/or has a much bigger battery. It’s likely connected to a faster and less congested network. Your phone has all kinds of constraints it has to follow about conserving battery power and sharing network time.

All this means that your laptop is free to use more power to check for messages more frequently on a faster and often less-congested network.
