How come sometimes in the winter the interior side of the windshield freezes up?

When the air in your car is pretty humid, it can happen. Frost forms when your windshield becomes so cold, that the water contained in the air starts to condense. This means that water, present in the air as vapour, becomes liquid when in contact with the windshield. At this point, there’s just a layer of liquid water, like there’s fog on your windshield. A bit like the mirrors of your bathroom fogging up when you take a bath (it is the same phenomenon but the reasons are different). If it is cold enough, the water layer can freeze. Tada, you now have frost on the inside of your windshield!
Cold air can hold less water in it. This creates dew,but since it’s so cold it freezes right as it condenses, making a sheet of ice on it.
