Specifically the [VBR-PDW](https://guns.fandom.com/wiki/VBR_PDW), the wiki article mentions that it can be rechambered to fire a different caliber cartridge, but wouldn’t that require replacing all of the guns internals (and externals) with 9mm compatible ones?

Most guns can be disassembled by the user/owner into major components/blocks (trigger/fire control group, receiver, bolt carrier group, barrel, grip/stock, slide, etc.). Rechambering a gun for another caliber, provided the gun can handle the new caliber’s chamber pressure, involves replacing the barrel and receiver. The bolt carrier group might need to be replaced, but usually only if the new ammunition is a fundamentally different design( eg rimfire vs centerfire).
