Say I were tone deaf (I don’t think I actually am lol) how would I be able to tell? And how would someone else be able to tell if I’m tone deaf or if I just can’t match pitch?

Its not a genuine diagnosis it’s just a term for saying someone has a shit musical ear essentially
Just cos someone’s tone deaf doesn’t mean they always will be, just means they don’t have perfect pitch and have never tried to train their ear
You can tell if someone is by playing a song they know correctly and then playing it incorrectly and seeing if they can tell the difference.
It’s gonna vary from person to person how good they are at picking up changes to the original or straight up errors. Errors are usually much more obvious but not necessarily – it varies a lot on what’s being played and who’s listening
I feel like most people who are tone deaf are often told they are because they will sing unself consciously whilst making some truly terrible sounds and not understanding just how bad it sounds. Plenty of people know they can’t sing and still do it just for fun, but they are aware they sound bad. Some people really aren’t. So if you sing and think you sound good but everyone else doesn’t that’s a major clue you are tone deaf or have a musical ear that is abnormally bad. Most people can naturally pick out errors to some extent, I feel it’s quite rare for someone to be well and truly tone deaf
