How could one tell the difference between tone being tone deaf and the inability to match pitch? Both from the perspective of the one diagnosed and the one diagnosing.

Say I were tone deaf (I don’t think I actually am lol) how would I be able to tell? And how would someone else be able to tell if I’m tone deaf or if I just can’t match pitch?

Basically I’d play you some notes on a piano or keyboard you can’t see, and then play some more, and then ask if they’re the same or different. Do that a few times and it should be plain to me.

I chose those instruments because it’s easier to hide the keys and because there’s no chance I’d wobble the note like is possible on a woodwind or brass where embrasure(sp?) matters.
