Purple is the easy one. Purple appears as a decayed version of blue. It’s all used up and decrepit.
Hyperlinks are blue because the industry standard at the time was blue to indicate interactivity. Anything you could interact with was blue. The background was light Grey, text was already black. Light colors don’t show well on a light background, and blue had the most contrast.
