Like every other plant we eat we probably saw an animal eat it and ate it ourselves.

Or Timmy the caveman was very hungry, ate it and didn’t die. Timmy’s brother Jimmy the caveman on the other hand ate the red berries, and let’s just say we don’t eat those anymore…

More than likely someone saw an animal eating it. Humans are very good at studying the nature around them.
