I am curious how stock markets worked before the advent of computers. Trading today is so fast, I can’t wrap my head around how it could have worked before computers were involved.

Also: computers and high speed trading changed the game of trading. In 1980, daily volume of shares traded was only a tenth of the volume that trades daily now.
The old system pre-computers could not have handled the daily volume of transactions common to 2022.
