I am curious how stock markets worked before the advent of computers. Trading today is so fast, I can’t wrap my head around how it could have worked before computers were involved.

People were on trading floors offering shares and calling out buy/sell orders then giving tickets to runners to get order to clearance desks. Market prices were distributed via ticker tapes, then later digitized.
