how did the U.S. become a global powerhouse?

Excuse my poor history knowledge, but the Europeans sailed here to find new lands, settled, and then after generations, they were overthrown by their descendants. The British empire still ruled around the world for centuries yet, the U.S. arguably is in a better state of economics, military, and such.

The United States has a lot going for it, you could focus on a bunch of different reasons. But I’ll go with the size of the United States Military. The United States military is three times the size of the next largest (china), and larger than six of the other top ten nations who are also allies.

In practice… the United States is basically one of those weirdos who’s open carrying a sidearm or rifle being stopped by police. By virtue of being so insanely (legally) armed, the cops are incredibly polite to them and not wanting to piss them off.

Ergo, we get really great customer service wherever we go by essentially being a “Karen”

“The life of an (American) Indian is a continual holiday, compared to the poor of Europe.”

“There is not, in that state, any of those spectacles of human misery which poverty and want present to our eyes in all the towns and streets in Europe.”

WW2 decimated pretty much every other economy. Pretty much was a last man standing result.

If you have a 3 story house, it might not be high in a city, But if a fire broke out and burned every building in that city down, your 3 story house becomes the new highest building.

North America is was literally THE ONLY place not touched by WW2, the closest devastation they experienced was Pearl Harbor.

While American production was great, it wasn’t the best, its really the massive brain drain coming from refugees and people escaping the war that really cemented America’s future as the global powerhouse.

Mind you Europe, the old powers, literally experienced 2 major war in 50 years. Their population devastated and infrastructure barely recovering.

Pretty much WW2, when the Western European powers were financially and militarily weakened, and the U.S was mostly unscathed, not even Pearl Harbor did a scratch (or nothing severe) to the American economy and military. Also all the Western European intellects who fled to the U.S., which added to the U.S. becoming even more technologically advanced.
