How did the western interior seaway disappear?

The Western Interior Seaway is believed to have been closed by continental uplift.
As North America moved westward the Rocky Mountains continued to form and push upwards which increased the altitude of the Western Interior Seaway floor to rise above sea level causing it to close off and become dry land.
