How do ants able to pinpoint, when there is food dropped or sweets nearby. How do they know?

Basically they can smell it. It’s not exactly the same way that humans smell but similar enough.

So a worker wandering around will smell food and go find it leaving a chemical trail. If the worker finds food it will go back home and let other ants know who will follow the trail set down by the first ant.

Then you get a whole line of ants going to the food.
