Like many, Ive used one on and off since my high school days. Sometimes it feels like it works, sometimes it doesn’t. How do they work?

There are different kinds of asthma inhalers but I assume you’re talking about the rescue inhalers, which are the ones you use when you’re having an asthma attack.

An asthma attack is when your airways constrict and reduce or block airflow to your lungs. The medication in the inhalers is an aerosol or powder that gets absorbed into the lining of your airway and causes the muscles around your airway to relax. This opens your airways up again so you can breath normally.
