I’m just curious as to how they get their internet? I’m assuming they have to tap somewhere. I’m not so tech savvy.

The most expensive part of providing Internet access is the distribution network, the “last mile”. If you ask an ISP for service at a data center or network interchange then it will be very cheap. I see quotes of around $60/month per Gbps all the time. Even more so you can connect to multiple ISPs at these locations which drives the price down through competition. You can even connect to multiple ISPs at the same time for added redundancy. So these community ISPs will get cheap competitive prices just like any other ISP at these central hookups but can then out compete on the cost of building the infrastructure from these central hookups to each customer.
