When a DJ remixes another DJ’s song, how do they do it? Specifically, how do they remove certain sounds and instrumentals. Do they reach out to the original DJ and ask for their FL Studio files or whatever program they used?
I would assume if it’s an official collab, they receive the stems (individual track files). If not, just like in hiphop they just sample the track in a way. I think this is how it might work.

Yes, They can agree on what elements are going to be used and share Ableton project files/folders, samples, softsynth presets and vocals.

They might ask for the original project files or recreate melodies by ear. A lot of modern EDM uses samples from public packs or meme videos so it’s easy to get ahold of those.
