Imagine riding your bike on a paved road, and the handlebars are locked in a straight position. Now imagine that paved has a patch of gravel. The wheels will vibrate and change ever so slightly. You are still going in the “same” direction, but just a tiny bit altered

They don’t. The only way to change earths orbit is to gain or lose energy. Earthquakes and Earth are essentially a closed system here so no energy escapes.

They can change earths rotation however by shifting enough mass that angular momentum is slightly reduced.
