How do electronic kettles work, and why are they so loud?

Especially since a pot of water on an induction cooktop is nearly silent, yet a kettle is so loud.

they put a high power heating element directly in the water or directly in contact with the bottom of the kettle. this is very efficient in transferring heat to the water, so much so that the layer of water directly on the heating element gets hot enough to boil in a handful of seconds.

this layer or water as it boils makes tiny steam bubbles, however, as the surrounding water is still cold, these bubbles will cool down and collapse almost instantly, making the kettle noise. when all the water reaches boiling point the bubbles no longer collapse, come together and float to the surface
