How do fish pull away so well when hooked, they are in water and can not hold onto anything?

They use their tail to swim against the line (I believe you’ve already seen a fish swimming). This movement propels water behind them, and with the action/reaction principle it propels them forward. Exactly like if you tied your line to a boat the boat could pull by using its propeller to launch water behind it.
