How do fish scar/heal from wounds in water?

If I scrape my knee and submerge it in water all the crusting agents wouldn’t be able to crust and my knee would never heal. And it leaves all this time for bacteria to enter my bloodstream because there is no protective layer over it, so how do sharks/fish/whales heal from sometimes MASSIVE wounds when they’re in bacteria-infested water the entire time?

Fish cover themselves with a thin layer of mucus normally to help prevent infections in the first place. Also why they are like super slippery when you grab one.

During wound healing that mucus production goes up to help protect a cut as well.
